From Booklist (starred review):
"The characters are appropriately larger than life (but still recognizable as real people), and the author is clearly a talented storyteller who knows how to write scenes that are graphic, frightening, and memorable. Many veteran horror writers will be grinding their teeth in envy. A definite must-read, whether you’ve read Infected or not."
CONTAGIOUS SYNOPSIS:
Across America, a mysterious pathogen transforms ordinary people into raging killers, psychopaths driven by a terrifying, alien agenda. The human race fights back, yet after every battle the disease responds, adapts, using sophisticated strategies and brilliant ruses to fool its pursuers. The only possible explanation: the epidemic is driven not by evolution but by some malevolent intelligence.
Standing against this unimaginable threat is a small group, assembled under the strictest secrecy. Their best weapon is hulking former football star Perry Dawsey, left psychologically shattered by his own struggles with this terrible enemy, who possesses an unexplainable ability to locate the disease’s hosts. Violent and unpredictable, Perry is both the nation’s best hope and a terrifying liability. Hardened CIA veteran Dew Phillips must somehow forge a connection with him if they’re going to stand a chance against this maddeningly adaptable opponent. Alongside them is Margaret Montoya, a brilliant epidemiologist who fights for a cure even as she reels under the weight of endless horrors.
These three and their team have kept humanity in the game, but that’s not good enough anymore, not when the disease turns contagious, triggering a fast countdown to Armageddon. Meanwhile, other enemies join the battle, and a new threat — one that comes from a most unexpected source — may ultimately prove the most dangerous of all.

I absolutely adored the book & gave it 5 stars as soon as I finished it.
I can't help but try to think up ways for Perry to have survived, though. (My favorite Sigler character aside from Pookie Chang!) I kept wondering if perhaps that argument between the soldier responsible for launching the bomb & his superiors happened to be long enough for Perry's survival instincts to kick in & for him to get far enough away that he could find some sort of shelter. (Hey, the guy's got incredibly strong survival instincts- maybe he had a change of heart!) I've thought up a lot of different scenarios, all equally as unlikely as the first one!
I can't wait for the third book!

It's a damn good thing that I don't care about spoilers, because the Dew and Perry thing was right there in my face. I thought reviews were supposed to be neutral.
And I had to run into the restroom to prevent my toddler from learning brand new words. I can't believe Dew and Perry are GONE! I am way to heartbroken to go on. No seriously, I have to wait how long for Pandemic?
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

Maybe, since Perry was nuked (wiped off the planet), a time traveler could rescue him without changing the future. Maybe, since Perry was infected again with the new strain, he is the only human who can save mankind in the final battle. Maybe in the future, they can grow Perry new balls. Scott, Please, save the son-of-a-bitch. I loved infected and contagious. I can't wait for Pandemic. Although, I'm having trouble letting go of Perry.

Dude, I know how you feel, they axed off my two favorite characters. I cant believe they had Perry just shoot Dew in the head with a .45, i almost started to scream during study hall, lol
Then they nuke Perry, after such a touching goodbye, he deserves so much better than that.

I've been waiting patiently for a copy of Contagious to show up at my local bookstore (paperback is out in a couple weeks). So I figured I'd check out the author's website, see what he's been up to. I show up here, and what do I get when I scroll down? Perry's dead? Thanks a lot for that news! How's about you use that time machine to spoil some more things for me? Vader is Luke's father? Bruce Willis is a ghost? Soylent Green is people? You don't say!
I sure won't be coming back here again.
As per usual, extremely powerful book in the sense that I actually HAD to read the whole thing through as quickly as my brain would have allowed.
Loved it and hey, would love this as a movie. (It would be epic... have fun with the special effects costs...)
Just wondering... after reading infected contagious and ancestor... where the f**k do you get your inspiration oh great Sigler? Because the only way i get such insane ideas is if I was O.D-ing on a liquified concoction of ecstacy and cocaine. O_O

god damm,
Just finished listening to the Podcast ( i know i am late to this party, but better late than never) and it is great.
Kind of sucked that you had to kill Perry but I prefer it that way. Life would be shitty without any infected or triangles to kill. But why Phillips? Anyway I guess you know better. I would really would have loved that Perry ripped chelsea's head off instead of just shooting her!
Great job once again FOD. Now let the Pandemic spread!
holy crap contaigious was even better than infected!! but it took me a while to get it. my mom was going to make me wait till it got out on paperback, but finally she broke down and got me it lol
me and my dad both made a bet that Perry Dawsey would live throw the nuclear bomb. If i win i get a kraken's T-shirt but if i lose i have to change the litter box for 3 month
Okay, it's out in print and I can get my hands on it. But, no bout-a-doubt it, it's just so much more fun to listen to THE MAN read it. The impending print, then it's out and the NY Times List. It's great to hear his excitement and all the bits as well as one kick-@ss story.
Still listening...won't crack the cover until it's over!

I was so pumped after the ending of Contagious! I honestly couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I've read both books now and I was afraid the second might be a let down as sequels sometimes are. I mean, how could you outdo infected?? It was a read beyond words. Damn, that's what I call great fiction! All I can say is I have a new favorite author. Keep 'em comin Sig. You rock!
Couldn't wait for the audio episodes, so I went ahead and finished it. Nice job, FDO! Nice job, indeed! I was most impressed with how the style morphed from Infected into a very different feel. Totally fitting and excellent, in its own way, just very different from Infected. Coolness. Icepick http://www.brucepress.net
Just finished Infected....found it lookin' lonely on the bookshelf in my local Asda (That's Wall-Mart to you mixed up dudes in the US). So I think "Yeah, I'll give this a go", it was only 3 quid or something. Never heard of this Sigler bloke before, but now I'm on Amazon USA spendin' shitloads buying his goddamn books! What am I?....some kind of freakazoid? Oh yeah, I think so!
So now I'm just waitin' by the door for Contagious to hit the mat....the big question is......what the hell am I gonna do after I've read it???? Sigler....write more, damn you!

I finished the book last night, and I must say it's fucking INTENSE! I never suspected an ending like that, but it was the only way to go. The fate of humanity was on the line.
I can't wait for Pandemic now. You got yourself a new junkie, Mr. Sigler! I love your writing style, and you drop more f-bombs than any author I know. With your extensive knowledge in science, biology and whatnot, I'd like to see you write a zombie novel. You'd kick a lot of ass with one.
On February 6th, 2009 (18:55 GMT) Jeremy J. (not verified) says:
I finished Infected a few days ago, and I must say, I was greatly impressed with the work. I thought it was going to be this book that's a hybrid of Dreamcatcher—since Sigler is influenced by Stephen King—and Resident Evil. Hell, the hatchlings remind me of Las Plagas from Resident Evil 4. I was pleasantly surprised at the fact that it wasn't a zombie book; it was my first assumption. But I purchased the book anyway, read it, and I now have a new author to read, and a new author to call as an influence.
I purchased Contagious Tuesday, and the freakiest thing happened. I was at Borders because that's where it's at—Barnes and Noble is okay, but Borders is easier to navigate. I found Contagious in the horror section, saw it was from Scott Sigler, and I had to read the jacket. It's a sequel to Infected. Now the freakiest thing happened: Frank Sinatra was singing "I Got you Under my Skin" on the speaker.
Talk about your irony, or something.
I haven't caught any of Sigler's podcasts, but I'm definitely going to from now on.

Take a two week vacation from work.
Download everything available from Scott Sigler.
Keep plenty of coffee on hand. You will not be sleeping.
Plug in and listen!
Under NO circumstance are you to remove your ear-buds/headphones. There is absolutely no need to converse with any other living creature until all of your Sigler Smack is consumed. Life can wait, the Siglerverse will not. Once you have been assimilated, you will then be Contagious. It is now your sole mission in life to convert those unfortunate souls who have not yet succumbed. Welcome to the fold, my brother. Now register and embrace your new life.

I fuckin-A loved this book! But now that I've finished, I have post-Contagious-Infected depression. *SIGH*
Scott, you NEED to come to Canada for a book tour! That would be so awesome! Loved it, will love it again, and I will keep putting you out there here in BC!
Hooray! - received the book that I ordered from Borderlands, signed by the FDO himself who apparently thinks that I rock! Could it be one of the first to make to Antipodean Shores?

I first heard of Infected when I saw an ad on Max Brooks' World War Z site. That was early last year, then right before Christmas I saw it in the bookstore and decided to check it out. I read through it twice in four days and wanted more. I then heard the sequel was to be released December 30th, great timing I thought. So I waited and grabbed the sole copy my bookstore got in. I've now read it twice as well and I have to say I want Pandemic!!! The story is so engaging, I'm just so sad at some of the great characters lost though... Keep it up!
Contagious is awesome so far. I think im going to steal my roomates book so I can finish it quick, because as much as I love Scotts great voices, I cant wait months for the end!! And after that I think ill buy my own copies of infected and Contagious because I love Scotts ideas about selling books AND giving them out for free at the same time. Must spread siglerism... infected......
