It's all over! It's all over! We stamped, numbered, signed and inscribed 1,500 copies of THE STARTER for all y'all, and our work here is complete. The big-ass postal truck came yesterday to take away THE STARTER pre-orders. We're happy as drunken clams. Yes, you can still order by clicking here.

Junkies, we are closing in on Mission Accomplished. As we head into Day Four, we have 330 boxes left to pack. All orders will be at the post office on Tuesday, August 31. USPS is a little slow getting them to you, but they are en route. And, if you haven't ordered or you want one for a gift? Day Two from the Warehouse of Døøm saw us rocking that shit like Iron Maiden. We busted through the rest of the foreign orders and also shipped 400 domestic (US) orders. We have 600 left to box & ship. The post office loves us like your girlfriend does when you go on a business trip. We are so on-point right now, we had 24 orders come in since we got to the warehouse, and we will ship them out on Monday at the latest. Order now and have yours in the mail on August 30.

Day One went well. We packed up all the ROOKIE/STARTER 2-book sets in our fancy new shipping boxes. This batch heads to the post office today, creating some extra room in the Warehouse of Døøm. We got halfway through the foreign orders and will finish today. Again, finishing this smaller batch and getting it out the door creates room and allows us to focus on the biggest chunk -- US domestic orders. read more »

ANCESTOR user-generated video finalists

ARealGirl and I have crunched the numbers and determined our finalists for the ANCESTOR User-Generated Video Contest (finalists are listed at right, in order of view-count). Our rules specified that the five videos with the most views would become "finalists," and have their videos submitted to our panel of Hollywood big-shots (click here to see the panelists). Those big-shots will determine the grand-prize winner, who nabs a 32GB WiFi+3G Apple iPad (valued at $729).

We said there would be five finalists, but we have opted to expand the field of finalists to seven. Let a brotha explain why.

Like any online contest these days, it seems, there is ample opporunity to game the results. We had to take a long look at a couple of entries to determine how they got such huge view-counts. Everything checked out, but we felt that two of them produced views that -- while honest and accurate -- didn't best suit the purposes and intent of the contest. For that reason, we added two additional videos that did suit the purposes and intent of contest.

Finalists #6 and #7 will be submitted to the Hollywood big-shots, but will not get the finalist prize-pack. Those two can, however, still win the iPad. The top five view-count-getters receive these goodies:

• $200 prize moolah!
• 16 GB iPod Nano (the Grand Prize Winner does not get the Nano)
• A signed, personalized copy of ANCESTOR
• Their work viewed by industry professionals

NEXT STEP:
We submit the seven finalists to the four bigwigs. Each bigwig picks a favorite, the video with the most favorites wins. We should have the results back in about a week, but we don't have a hard deadline for them.

In the event of a tie, I cast the deciding vote. I'm like the mothafuckin' Vice President in that regard, bitches!

Scott's still on the road for Week Two of the ANCESTOR Tour. He's in Chicago tonight, Detroit tomorrow, then wrapping up the last few stops next week. Today's FridayFix™ is something different:

Liu Jian Dan's blog, as created back in 2007, for the first print version of ANCESTOR.

You'll notice some of the names and incidents have changed between versions. And you'll notice the blogger behind Jian's posts was never revealed … until now. Back in 2007, Scott turned to P.G. Holyfield to blog as Jian, and P.G. rose to the challenge. This blog is fun and full of references to the first print version of the book. I hope you enjoy this quick peek back!

P.G. Holyfield is a fantasy writer that has been a Junkie since April of 2006. He is the author of Murder at Avedon Hill, available from Dragon Moon Press, and the story “Death, Taxes, and Scott Sigler,” which Scott played in his feed in December of 2006.

Special forces standout Lieutenant Mac Cooley has spent the last five months embedded with the Ki Imperial Commandos, speaking their language, fighting their fight, eating their food and gathering intel on Ki Rebel Association assets. Now, "Stone Balls" and his Ki buddies recon for a company of Marines dropped in for an attack on those assets. When leadership fails, Mac will have to choose between obeying orders, or saving lives.

This episode was co-written with Paul Elard Cooley, a possibly homicidal gent with a penchant for killing his fans, even the ones he doesn't have. (At least that's what he tells me.) The last of THE CRYPT crew are assembling for the shakedown cruise, although just like the rest of our characters, they have no idea what's coming. At least most of the crew actually volunteered for the Planetary Union Navy, but not computer hacker Hamzah Haring. Perhaps this is a cautionary tale about what can happen if you get all spun up with anger, and go after someone of something best left alone.

This episode is co-written with author PC Haring. After Hamzah's fate is decided, we're down to just two more crew members in Book One -- one co-written by Paul E. Cooley, the other by Parsec Award-winning author Patrick McLean.

PC Haring is the author of CYBROSIS, an audio drama with a full cast that includes voice talent like George Hrab, Mur Lafferty, Rich Sigfreit, Phillipa Ballantine and more. As we begin 2010 (the official Decade of Døøm™ you have now officially been warned), I'll be comandeering the Friday Fix™ as a Dark Øverlord Media space. Since Scott will be doing so much writing and traveling and destroying of worlds in 2010, I'll use these posts to keep you up-to-date, share interesting interviews or other Sigler news from around the internets … and maybe share a few things the FDO™ might not share himself.

But to start things off right: earlier this week I sat down with Scott to discuss all things 2009. With the exception of a bit in the middle where Scott got so excited shouting about Launch Pad that he broke the audio, there's lots of 2009 to be had (for the record, Scott really, really liked Space Camp for Writers.)

It's a bit long, so I'm dropping it in without intro or outro. Perhaps I'll create my own bombastic, meh-tal book-ends soon.

Dead dude embedded in my face: FDO™ out 3-4 days

Junkies, I'm off to the dentist today. After they put me under (which for me takes way more knock-out juice than any normal human, I'm told), they are going to literally saw into my face and embed a piece of dead dude in my upper jaw. That's right, a piece of some deceased cat's skeleton will be wedged in my maw. This will knock me on my ass for a few days.

Hence, all world-crushing activity will come to a halt until my body goes all Borg on this chunk of bone, and starts to assimilate the skeletal framework. My osteoblasts will turn that foreign bone into native bone, and boom-shakalaka, I fill in a hole (that you can see as my right incisor in the picture at left).

If my dental surgery record holds steady, there will be much vomiting. Yay me! But when I return, I will have fully subsumed the soul of another human being. The first of many, bitches, the first of many ...

UPDATE (5:27pm, PT, 11/13/09):

The dead dude is now fully embedded in my face. It was not fun. I kid you not -- twice they had to use a freakin' hammer and a freakin' chisel. A chisel, bitches. Did I mention the chisel?
