Phil Rossi is taking the ANCESTOR route to publishing, making an Amazon.com rush on July 9 for his novel CRESCENT. I like this book a lot, so much, in fact, that the FDO™ has a tasty blurb on the front cover. 

Phil is giving the book away as a podcast and a PDF, but he wanted to take a couple of minutes to give his schpeil directly to you Junkies. Hey, what can you say? He knows what a dominant force the Junkies are, and he's making a pitch for his goods. Give it a listen and see if the book sounds like your cup of blood.

I listened to this via podcast and the story started off with premise then dipped into the absurd, rolled into the boring, and concluded with a Yawn. So much buildup and then a Deus Ex machina saves the day. You could've figured it out long before and knew what was happening. It felt like the author was writing just to write and do fillers. You could easily cut out 1/4 of this book and slim it down. The horror wasn't there, the sleazy sex was, and the suspense was nice then let down. Overall a 6/10 for effort. I wasn't impressed and really was hoping for it to get good and then horribly let down at the ending.

Y'all make it sound like these words were spammed over the internet in a raging intarweb hatestorm. As for everyone coming to the defense, well that dogpile mentality does happen. They want to see authors whom they favor do good and reap praise. I for one would like to see quality work and if it's not that great or could be made better than so be it. My points were still valid: 1. Cut down on some of the scenes that were just filler: wandering around the ship, times at the bar, trips through the planet. Could be made shorter and more suspenseful 2. Revamp the ending: Did we honestly need that to happen? All that buildup and BAM she saves the day. Hints were splattered all over the place, it was dead obvious what was going to happen. 3. Epilogue: Was I supposed to be scared? i was hoping something would come from it but I felt let down. 4. The story had potential it just dragged on and on. See 1. I have no shame in rebuking my comments. Y'all have my email address right up in there, moderators see it. I make 2 comments on 2 websites regarding the same content and conspiracy theories kick in! Someone has been reading too much into Contagious and Infected!

I've read many many independent books ranging from sci-fi to history to even religious. Most come from podiobooks: Sigler, Lowell, Rossi, Lackey, to the author of the Leviathan chronicles whose name escapes me. Allot of people do drive by listens but I took the time to listen to the entire thing and then post. Most folks will give a sentence and then head on out the door. As for me hating on other book? This isn't the only one I didn't enjoy. Ancestor I couldn't get through the first few chapters and gave up. Maybe it got better *shrug* I didn't read the whole thing, can't comment on it until I do. I'm still waiting for The Crypt to come out.
