The PUV James Keeling: a.k.a., The Crypt, designed by Arturo AlamillaThe PUV James Keeling: a.k.a., The Crypt, designed by Arturo AlamillaOh snap-dilly-icious, take a gander at the winner of the Design the PUV James Keeling contest!

If you haven't listened to THE CRYPT podiobook, click here to see the episodes in order.

The Terran! The ship at left was designed by Arturo Alamilla, Junkie name "The Terran" (and Arturo, if you're out there, get back to me!) Yes, in typical Siglerism fashion, we can't reach the guy who won the damn thing ...

The Keeling, also known as "The Crypt," will be based on this design. To quote my favorite movie, Pumpkinhead, "there's some things I gotta do to it, before it's of any use to ya." We need to modify the tail section and do some other key changes before it's ready for combat (click on the "read more" tag below to see the other ships featured in THE CRYPT).

Watch out for this fucker ...: This ship was designed by Gonzalo Golpe.Watch out for this fucker ...: This ship was designed by Gonzalo Golpe.I fell in love with so many designs in this contest. There was just a sickening display of talent and creativity. Arturo's concept was closest to the needs of the story. However, some designs were so unique that I'm writing them into the three-season plot. Gonzalo Golpe's very different ship was way off my original spec, but after he explained his vision, I almost made this the winner. Then the evil part of my brain thought about how it could fit into the plot, and I gave Gonzalo's amazing design a completely new purpose in life. Gonzalo is on a completely different level, so go check out his website for some serious visual smack.

Best to run away ...: Dan Spears' design will be a fighterBest to run away ...: Dan Spears' design will be a fighterAlso, I simply couldn't pass up the nasty piece of death-dealing designed by Dan Spears. If you like spaceships, check out Dan's Website. He's sick, this guy, and there is more eye candy there than a convention hall that double-booked Victoria's Secret Corporate Party and the National "Shot Girls" Convention.

Finally, we had a major problem getting all the pictures off of the Pixish.com site before that site shut down. I have one more design I simply have to find. If you designed a ship that sort of looked like an unfolding planet, with some nasty, spikey stuff inside, please email it to scott@scottsigler.net as soon as you can.

Junkies, howdy-ho. I'm still in Michigan handling famliy biz-nass. I thought I'd try out my portable recording rig and see if it measured up to your listening standards. My guinea pig? Another CRYPT story, this time the sad tale of Yolanda Smith. When you is a ho, the pimp always wins. This is your first peek inside the PUV James Keeling. Just a peek, mind you, the FDO™ wouldn't want to hike up his skirt and show you the good stuff all at once.

Tabitha Smith This episode of THE CRYPT was co-written by Tabitha "Tabz" Smith, world-famous for her work on Buffy Between the Lines. If you're a Buffy fan, you simply must check out this podcast. Turns out Tabz can kick out some semi-twisted concepts of her own, as evidenced by this story.

How can you have a starship without a chief engineer? You just can't, it's against the rules of science fiction. Therefore, I give you the story of B.W. Crites, a brilliant engineer who has slung a few too many colorful phrases at a few too many officers. Originated by author Greg Crites and edited/modified by the FDO™, this story should give you an idea of what Captain Travis Ellis will be up against when he orders "full speed ahead."

IN THIS EPISODE:
Death surrounds some people, follows them, shadows their every move. For Private Pippa Remic, it's is something she just can't seem to escape. You can't run really run from death when you are the person that always seems to dish it out -- whether you want to, or not.

I'm still in Australia, taking a few days to see some of the sites before next week's Supanova Melbourne.  It's been a terrific trip and a lot of fun to meet so many great folks.

I am dropping PASSENGER this week. It's part of the CRYPT universe, and will eventually get roped into that storyline. The audio production here is crazy: back in September 2007 I really did this one up, so it's a fun listen. I hope you enjoy.

Before I go, I'm dropping Part 2 of PASSENGER today, where we learn more about the horrible trouble facing this combat crew.  Unfortunately, they're really learning the truth behind that movie-wisdom "Sometimes, dead is better."

THE CRYPT: Sergeant Shonda "Peace Sign" Bible

All this month, we're meeting the final crew members headed to THE CRYPT before it leaves drydock.  A collaborative effort, this week we're hearing from one of the "new recruits", Jake Bible. (Still coming in May: PC Haring, Paul E. Cooley, & and "old guard" Patrick McLean.)

Shonda "Peace Sign" Bible has had a time of it, no doubt.  Good thing she's the pilot of a MV-6T hull-breecher, also known as a "Sexy Beast." That's right: an assignment request for the Keeling, a bad-ass soldier, and a 35-ton mech.

Jake Bible is the author of DEAD MECH, The World's First Drabble Novel, currently being released as a free serialized audiobook. He lives in Asheville, NC with his wife and kids and has had several short stories published in such publications as Necrotic Tissue, The New Bedlam Project, Quantum Muse and The Drabblecast podcast anthology. THE CRYPT: Hamzah Haring

The last of THE CRYPT crew are assembling for the shakedown cruise, although just like the rest of our characters, they have no idea what's coming. At least most of the crew actually volunteered for the Planetary Union Navy, but not computer hacker Hamzah Haring. Perhaps this is a cautionary tale about what can happen if you get all spun up with anger, and go after someone of something best left alone.

This episode is co-written with author PC Haring. After Hamzah's fate is decided, we're down to just two more crew members in Book One -- one co-written by Paul E. Cooley, the other by Parsec Award-winning author Patrick McLean.

P C HaringPC Haring is the author of CYBROSIS, an audio drama with a full cast that includes voice talent like George Hrab, Mur Lafferty, Rich Sigfreit, Phillipa Ballantine and more. He swims deep in the waters of podcast fiction: hear his music on the METAMORA CITY podcast, his voice acting in Tee Morris's podcast novel BILLIBUB BADDINGS: The Case of the Singing Sword and on J.D. THE CRYPT: Lt. Mac "Stone Balls" Cooley

The crew of the PUV James Keeling is almost complete. Special forces standout Lieutenant Mac Cooley has spent the last five months embedded with the Ki Imperial Commandos, speaking their language, fighting their fight, eating their food and gathering intel on Ki Rebel Association assets. Now, "Stone Balls" and his Ki buddies recon for a company of Marines dropped in for an attack on those assets. When leadership fails, Mac will have to choose between obeying orders, or saving lives.

This episode was co-written with Paul Elard Cooley, a possibly homicidal gent with a penchant for killing his fans, even the ones he doesn't have. (At least that's what he tells me.) His Parsec-award nominated novella, Tattoo, is now available for purchase at smashwords.com for $.99 or you can get the podcast version available at his site.  Visit shadowpublications.com for his stories, rants, reviews, and general insanity.

THE CRYPT: Chief Bronson McLean, Part 1

CRYPT cover

The PUV James Keeling has her crew ... almost. One more lost soul must join The Crypt before she embarks on her shakedown cruise. In this episode we meet Bronson McLean, career sailor, dedicated to his comrades, the guy you want with you in a pinch. When his crew is sent to assess an derelict enemy warship, The Sword of Mother Theresa … McLean's dedication is put to the test.

This episode was co-written with Patrick McLean, the creator of How to Succeed in Evil and the Seanachai podcast. His work can be found scattered all over the web and aggregated at www.patrickemclean.com When he's not writing he helps people and companies with their words. THE CRYPT: Chief Bronson McLean, Part 2

THE CRYPT cover Click & Listen: Chief Bronson McLean, Pt. 2

Happy Memorial Day to you all, and especially to our servicepeople and their families. We thought we'd finish off our military-themed story on a military holiday. Enjoy Part 2 of Chief Bronson McLean, the final episode of THE CRYPT BOOK ONE: THE CREW. After you hear the closing music, the crew will be complete, and the PUV James Keeling will be ready to depart.

This episode was co-written with Patrick McLean, the creator of How to Succeed in Evil and the Seanachai podcast. His work can be found scattered all over the web and aggregated at www.patrickemclean.com When he's not writing he helps people and companies with their words. He'd call this activity 'advertising and marketing', but he believes both those terms are temporarily obsolete. And, due to unfortunate incidents in his past, the word 'advertising' makes him break out in hives.
