Ancestor

ANCESTOR is out June 22, 2010, and it will bust you one right in the mouth. You hear me? Right in the mouth! The book has more attitude and knock-out power than Tyson back in the day.

“Fun, creepy, and impossible to stop reading, Ancestor is the rare thriller that's based on cutting-edge science and is entirely possible. Long after you're done with the book, you'll still be looking over your shoulder. Just in case.”
Phil Plait, PhD, author of DEATH FROM THE SKIES and creator of BadAstronomy.com

ANCESTOR SYNOPSES

“The ancestors are out there … you have to believe me.”

Acclaimed author Scott Sigler, New York Times bestselling creator of INFECTED and CONTAGIOUS, offers a chilling tale of what can happen when hubris, greed, and madness drive scientific experimentation past the brink of reason.

Every five minutes, a transplant candidate dies while waiting for a compatible heart, a liver, a kidney. Imagine a technology that could provide those life-saving transplant organs for a nominal fee ... and imagine what a company would do to monopolize that technology.

On a remote island in the Canadian Arctic, PJ Colding leads a group of geneticists who have discovered this holy grail of medicine. By reverse-engineering thousands of animal genomes, Colding's team has dialed back the evolutionary clock and re-created the progenitor of all mammals. The method? Illegal. The result? A computer-engineered living creature, an animal whose organs can be implanted in any person, with no chance of transplant rejection.

There's just one problem: these ancestors are not the docile herd animals that Colding's team envisioned. Instead, Colding’s work has given birth to something big, something evil…something very, very hungry.

As creators become prey in an ultimate battle for survival, Colding and the woman he loves must fight to survive — even as government agents close in to shut the project down, and the deep-pocketed company backing this research reveals its own cold-blooded agenda.

"This story sizzles with tension. Danger and drama mix with cutting-edge science to produce a top notch, action-packed adventure. If you think Scott Sigler just writes horror, you're dead wrong. This guy is one heck of a thriller writer."

Steve Berry, New York Times bestselling author of THE PARIS VENDETTA and THE CHARLEMAGNE PURSUIT

"Michael Crichton may be gone, but he has a worthy successor in Scott. This book takes thriller and science fiction conventions and slams them together to make something new and fascinating."

Simon R. Green, New York Times bestselling author of THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UNCANNY and AGENTS OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS

"Sigler has a unique talent for keeping readers on the edge of their seats; I absolutely had to know what was going to happen next. Infected is full of mayhem, action, and gore--and you won’t be able to put it down."

Dave Wellington, author of 13 BULLETS and the MONSTER ISLAND trilogy

How about an ancestor slightly smaller than an elephant

chrshowe's picture

FTA: "Scientists in Italy are hoping to [0]breed back from extinction the mighty [1]auroch, a bovine species which has been extinct since 1627. The auroch weighed 2,200 pounds (1000kg) and its shoulders stood at 6'6". The beasts once roamed most of Asia and northern Africa. The animal was depicted in cave paintings and Julius Caesar described it as being a little less in size than an elephant. A member of the Consortium for Experimental Biotechnology suggests that 99% of the auroch's DNA can be recreated from genetic material found in surviving bone material. Wikipedia mentions that researchers in Poland are working on the same problem."

Are you looking for the podcast 'Ancestor'?

Scott Sigler says that the podcast/podiobook will be be pulled off until February 2010. So as hard as you try, you won't be able to find it on the web. You can go to this link: http://www.podiobooks.com/title/ancestor But the podcast isn't up for downloading.

old podcast versions

I recall when I first heard a plug for Ancestor and I thought that would probably be just another monster story. Then I heard it, amazing, twists and turns, the floor faling our from under the words! Scott, you displaced Stephen King on my shelf! Exciting to see this one come out hard copy. Though I appreciated the re-done podiobook for Infected, I have to say there was a raw quality of the original podcast that I liked. Please, please when you re-post the new polished spiffy versions, please put back up the originals as well. Some of your minions love the original versions the way you first spoke em! Post em both I say....pretty please

MIND BLASTING!!

"No, not mind blowing, MIND BLASTING!" Loved this book, once again Sigler exploded my mind for the third time (after infected and contagious). Nice plot, logical and could not stop progress through the story.

GASP.

This was next on my list of Sigler Books to listen to, and i had just finished earthcore and tried to go to the podiobooks link for it and needless to say when it didnt work i litteraly had a panic attack..

Ancestor is my third Sigler

Ancestor is my third Sigler Novel (others are Earthcore and Nocturnals). Not usually one for lots and lots of violence, but dammit you SOB, you tell a good story! I'm gonna make one suggestion, though. Get some real girls for the ladies voices! Most of your voices are great. I especially like the crotchety ol' canadian in Ancestor (can't think of his name right now), but when it comes to ladie's voices, you need help, dude. It's the one distraction I find listening to your books. Regards, Jeff

You MUST hear the Rookie!!!!

And it has been love ever since. "When i say your dumb name step forward and forsake all other before your new digital ruler..."

Loved it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. Scott has given us a tale that represents a startling similarity to what may lie in store for us if scientists ignore the warning signs in their eagerness for results. Beware the Ancestor! HuntingtheMuse.com gives Ancestor a big thumbs up!

Amazing!

§¡|n+€|| Words can't describe the sheer awsome contained in this book! At first I did not know what to expect from this book. I thought, eh, just some book about genetics and such. That thought was violently ripped from my skull! The thought of never ending explosion of awsomeness was then shot into my head with a nail gun! This is certainly tied in to my favorite books along with Earthcore and Infected(although I'm not quite finished with either.)(I will be VERY soon) I am sorry to say that living on a 16-year-old's, no allowance/no job income makes it very hard to purchase books. I will but them as I get money. Hopefully(and I regret to say that I have not yet experienced either, but am starting) both The Rookie and Nocturnal will be placed among my list of favorites. Screw hopefully, they WILL be among my favorites!!!>:( ALL PRAISE FDO!!! \m\>.

By getting back to the root

By getting back to the root of our creation, Rhumkorrf hopes to create an animal with human internal organs. Rhumkorrf discovers the ancestor, but it is not the small, harmless creature he envisions.
